Weikman Nunataks

The Weikman Nunataks (76°30′S 143°59′W) are two nunataks on the divide separating the upper reaches of Balchen Glacier and Crevasse Valley Glacier, in the Ford Ranges of Westarctica. The nunataks lie 2 nautical miles (3.7 km) east of Mount Perkins.

Discovery and name

The Weikman Nunataks were first mapped by the United States Antarctic Service during the 1939-41 season. They were named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Edward R. Weikman Jr., a U.S. Navy Construction Mechanic 2nd Class at Byrd Station in 1967.

Baron of Weikman

On 19 January 2018, Mario Alexander Fagitsch was granted the hereditary title Baron of Weikman in recognition of his support of Westarctica.
