Hannah Island is an ice-covered island in the Marshall Archipelago, lying between Hutchinson Island and the Guest Peninsula within the Sulzberger Ice Shelf, off the coast of Westarctica. The highest point on the island is a 159 meter unnamed peak.

Discovery and name

The island was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos taken during the years 1959–65. Hannah Island was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for J.P. Hannah, a United States Antarctic Research Program ionospheric physicist at Byrd Station in 1968.

Peerage title

On 17 March 2023, Yohanna Lourenço was granted the peerage title Baroness Hannah in appreciation of her translation services during the diplomatic visit between Grand Duke Travis and Emperor Claudio I of Reunion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her title is named for this island which is also the short-form of her given name.
