Mount Steere is a prominent shield volcano standing 6.4 km (4 mi) NNW of Mount Frakes in the Crary Mountains of Westarctica.

Discovery and name

Mapped by USGS from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1959-66. Mount Steere was named for William C. Steere, biologist at McMurdo Station, 1964-65 season.

Noble title

In the Peerage of Westarctica, the Count of Steere, Benjamin Schenkman, takes his title from this mountain. His wife, the Countess of Frakes, Kelly Schenkman, takes her title from the neighboring Mount Frakes.
