The '''[[Abbot Ice Shelf]]''' is an [[ice-shelf]] 250 mi (400 km) long and 40 mi (60 km) wide, bordering the [[Eights Coast]] of [[Westarctica]] from [[Cape Waite]] to Pfrogner Point in [[Antarctica]].
'''[[MicroCon 2023]]''' was an [[micronation|intermicronational]] event hosted by the [[Royal Republic of Ladonia]] during the summer of 2023. It was the fifth event to occur under the [[MicroCon]] banner. The main conference was held in Joliet, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, during the weekend of July 1st. MicroCon 2023 was attended by 133 delegates representing 42 countries, making this the largest gathering of micronationalists ever held in the entire world.


[[Thurston Island]] lies along the northern edge of the western half of this ice shelf; other sizable islands ([[Sherman Island|Sherman]], [[Carpenter Island]], [[Dustin Island|Dustin]], Johnson Island, [[McNamara Island|McNamara]], [[Farwell Island|Farwell]] and [[Dendtler Island|Dendtler]]) lie partly or wholly within this shelf.
In the evening following the conference, the delegations dressed in their most formal attire and attended a gala ball complete with a three course meal. During the gala, several major awards were handed out, including two inductees to the [[Micronational Hall of Excellence]]: Queen Carolyn of [[Royal Republic of Ladonia|Ladonia]] and Queen Anastasia of [[Kingdom of Ruritania|Ruritania]]. Also, [[King George II of Slabovia]] bestowed a special honorary patch upon the few micronational leaders who have attended very [[MicroCon]] to date.


The ice shelf was first sighted by members of U.S. Antarctic Service (USAS) in flights from the [[USS Bear|USS ''Bear'']], in February 1940, and its western portion was delineated from air photos taken by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump, 1946–47.

MicroCon 2023 was an intermicronational event hosted by the Royal Republic of Ladonia during the summer of 2023. It was the fifth event to occur under the MicroCon banner. The main conference was held in Joliet, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, during the weekend of July 1st.
