The Government of Westarctica, formally referred to as His Majesty's Government, is the central government of Westarctica as well as its colonies, dependencies, and territories. Although similar in some respects to a parliamentary government, the government of Westarctica does not have an equivalent of a legislative parliament and does not include elected representatives; nor does it include a judicial branch.[1] All positions within the government are received by appointment and may be rescinded at the pleasure of the Grand Duke, the sole and independent head of the government. The government is separate from the Westarctican Order of Precedence, which characterizes the relations between Westarctica's nobility.
Divisions and relations
The Grand Duke
The Grand Duke is recognized as the sole head and leader of the national government. He has the right to create all governmental positions and to appoint persons to fill those positions. In the event that any particular position is not filled, all rights and responsibilities of that position revert to the Grand Duke. Appointments made by the Grand Duke are considered indefinite, though the Grand Duke may rescind any appointment at any time and without cause.
Foreign Offices
Westarctica currently has four government positions which provide governance to the nation's foreign territories and possessions. These include the Governor of the Balleny Islands, the Viceroy of Peter I Island, and the Governor and Viceroy of Calsahara. All of these appointments report directly to the Grand Duke.
The Prime Minister
Although Westarctica does not currently have a Prime Minister, the appointment would theoretically include the management of the nation's various ministries, as outlined below. The Prime Minister would report directly to the Grand Duke.
Ministry of Defense
The Ministry of Defense handles Westarctica's military needs. The Captain of the Guards and the Royal Guards are considered part of this ministry, although the Guards also function as an independent force which can be summoned directly by the Grand Duke.
Ministry of Immigration
The Ministry of Immigration handles the influx of Westarctican immigrants, including verifying applications and issuing citizen documents.
