The peak was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from [[U.S. Navy]] air photos collected during the years 1959–65. Asher Peak was named by the Advisory Committee on [[Antarctic]] Names in honor of Bill F. Asher, U.S. Navy, who worked as a Senior Chief Construction Electrician at Little America V in 1958. He was also the Nuclear Power Plant Operator and Instrument Maintenance Supervisor with the nuclear power unit at [[McMurdo Station]] in 1969.<br />
