==Discovery and name==
It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from [[U.S. Navy]] air photos taken during the 1959–60 season. Baker Nunatak was named by the Advisory Committee on [[Antarctic]] Names for Travis L. Baker, a meteorologist in the [[Byrd Station]] winter party in 1961.

==Peerage title==
On 17 January 2019, Stefan Apel was granted the [[Peerage of Westarctica|life peerage]] of Baron of Baker, so named for this feature.
