The Gurnon Peninsula was named by the Advisory Committee on [[Antarctic]] Names in honor of Lieutenant P.J. Gurnon, U.S. Navy, a Lockheed Hercules aircraft commander in Antarctica during Operation Deep Freeze 1965–67.
