	On 25 September 2015, Vicente Bicudo de Castro was granted the [[Peerage of Westarctica\|peerage title]] Count of Moore, with authority over the [[Moore Dome]]. ==Discovery and name==
It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and [[U.S. Navy]] air photos taken during the years 1959–65. Morris Island was named by the Advisory Committee on [[Antarctic]] Names in honor of Lieutenant J.E. Morris, U.S. Navy Reserve, who served aboard the [[USS Glacier|USS ''Glacier'']] in the [[Ross Sea]] during the 1961–62 research season.
