==Discovery and name==&lt;br /&gt;
The mountain was discovered on aerial flights in 1934 by the Byrd [[Antarctic]] Expedition. Mount Cooper was named by Admiral [[Richard E. Byrd]] in honor of Merian C. Cooper, a motion picture producer of Hollywood, whose most famous film was the 1933 movie ''King Kong''.&lt;br /&gt;
