Discovery and name
The rocks were mapped by the United States Antarctic Service and by United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos collected during the years 1959–65. Spaulding Rocks were named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Howard R. Spaulding, U.S. Navy, who worked as a builder at Byrd Station in 1966.
