==Discovery and name==
The nunatak was surveyed by the United States [[Antarctic]] Research Program [[Horlick Mountains]] Traverse party in December 1958. Tuning Nunatak was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Preston O. Tuning, who served as a meteorologist at [[Byrd Station]] in 1960.

On 20 November 2020, Seth Swingle was granted the [[Peerage of Westarctica|peerage title]] Baron of Tuning.
