==Discovery and name==&lt;br /&gt;
The mountains were discovered by [[Richard E. Byrd]] and members of the U.S. [[Antarctic]] Service in a flight from the ship [[USS Bear|USS ''Bear'']] on 27 February 1940. The Walker Mountains were named by US-SCAN in honor of Lt. William M. Walker, captain of the United States Exploring Expedition ship ''Island'' on 23 March 1839.&lt;br /&gt;
