Discovery and name
The rocks were mapped by the United States Geological Survey from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos collected during the years 1959–66. The Wedemeyer Rocks were named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Charles H. Wedemeyer, CM1, U.S. Navy who worked as a construction mechanic with the 1956 Army-Navy Trail Party that traversed eastward from Little America V to establish Byrd Station.
