Ackerman Ridge
Ackerman Ridge (86°34′S 147°30′W) is a prominent rock ridge forming the northwest extremity of the La Gorce Mountains of the Queen Maud Mountains, just south of Robison Glacier.
There are three spurs on the south-western side of Ackerman Ridge, including Surprise Spur.
Discovery and name
The ridge was discovered and roughly mapped in December 1934 by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition geological party under Quin Blackburn. Ackerman Ridge was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Lieutenant Ronnie J. Ackerman, a navigator with U.S. Navy Squadron VX-6 during Operation Deep Freeze in 1965 and 1966.
Peerage Title
On 8 October 2023, Grand Duke Travis bestowed the peerage title Count of Ackerman upon Adrian Maximo Bentancourt in recognition of his support of Westarctica. The count's title is named for Ackerman Ridge.
