Adams Rocks
Adams Rocks (76°14′S 145°39′W) are a pair of large rock outcrops that overlook the inner part of Block Bay. They are located 13 kilometers (7 nmi) west of Mount June in the Phillips Mountains. The highest of the two rocks is 679 meters tall.
Discovery and name
The rocks were mapped by the United States Antarctic Service during the 1939–41 research seasons, and further explored by the United States Geological Survey and mapped with U.S. Navy air photos taken from 1959–65. Adams Rocks were named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for James G. Adams, who served as a U.S. Navy builder with the Byrd Station party in 1967.
Noble title
As part of the 20th Anniversary Honors and Appointments celebrating Westarctica's 20 years of sovereignty, Sir Lyle H. Sorrell, the Baronet of Harpmore was granted the peerage title Viscount of Adams.
