Cape Braathen is an ice-covered cape at the northwest termination of the Evans Peninsula on Thurston Island.

Discovery and name

The cape was discovered in flights from the USS Burton Island and USS Glacier by U.S. Navy personnel undertaking the Bellingshausen Sea Expedition in February 1960. Cape Braathen was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Christoffer Braathen, a ski expert and dog driver with the Byrd Antarctic Expedition of 1928–30.
