Mount Chapman

Mount Chapman is a mountain in Westarctica. In is a triple-peaked mountain (2,715 m) with very steep sides and a large rock cliff on its north side, situated at the western end of the Whitmore Mountains.

Discovery and name

Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for William H. Chapman of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), cartographer with the Horlick Mountains Traverse (1958-59), who made a survey of the Whitmore Mountains on 2 January 1959.

Chapman spent several summer seasons in the Antarctic, including survey in the Pensacola Mountains (1957-58), and the highly successful U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Topo North-South Survey of the mountains bordering the west side of the Ross Sea and Ross Ice Shelf.

Countess of Chapman

Her Ladyship, Amy Morales, was granted the title Countess of Chapman in 2013 in recognition of her support of Westarctica and her friendship with Grand Duke Travis.
