The Hatcher Bluffs (86°20′S 125°36′W) are a line of bluffs facing northwest, located 5 nautical miles (9 km) south of Metavolcanic Mountain, at the east side of Reedy Glacier in Westarctica.

Discovery and name

The bluffs were mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos collected between 1960 and 1964. The Hatcher Bluffs were named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Julius O. Hatcher, a construction mechanic who worked at Byrd Station in 1962.

Peerage title

On 8 July 2023, Grand Duke Travis bestowed the peerage title Duchess of Hatcher upon Elisa Ghirardi, DtS, the Baroness of Jacobel and Vice Consul to Italy in recognition of her support of Westarctica.
