Mount Spencer

Mount Spencer (77°17′S 143°20′W) is a peak 1 nautical mile (1.9 km) south of Mount Darling in the Allegheny Mountains of the Ford Ranges of Westarctica.

Discovery and name

The mountain was discovered on aerial flights from West Base of the United States Antarctic Service that were conducted during the years 1939–41. Mount Spencer was named in honor of Herbert R. Spencer of Erie, Pennsylvania, the Sea Scout commander of Paul A. Siple, leader of the West Base party of that expedition.
