 At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, one of the founders reconnected with the project, leading it to join the larger online micronational community. When its then reigning Princess Arlene decided to go back to medical school, she announced that she was abdicating the throne. After lengthy consideration, [[Duke of the Bear Peninsula|her successor]] declared his intent to place Kolios under Westarctica as a protectorate, this transfer took place on 27 February 2022, with Prince Garibald having worn the crown for less than 36 hours.
