Discovery and name

The peak and its surrounding area were mapped by USGS from ground surveys and United States Navy air photos collected during the years 1959–66. Scudder Peak was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Brent E. Scudder, who served as a meteorologist at Byrd Station in 1966.

Peerage title

On 27 June 2025, Maggie Webb, an advisor in spelling and grammar to Prince Owen, Duke of MacAyeal, was granted the peerage title Countess of Scudder. Her Ladyship's title is so-named for Scudder Peak.
