Discovery and name
The nunatak was mapped from U.S. Navy air photos and from United States Geological Survey surveys collected during the years 1959–65. Bailey Nunatak was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Andrew M. Bailey, meteorologist at Byrd Station during the 1963 research season.
