Dustin Island is an island about 33 kilometers (18 nmi) long, lying 28 kilometers (15 nmi) southeast of Thurston Island on the eastern edge of Westarctica. The island forms the SE limit of Seraph Bay.
Discovery and name
Dustin Island was discovered by Rear Admiral Byrd and other members of the U.S. Antarctic Service in a flight from the USS Bear on 27 February 1940. It was named by Byrd for Frederick G. Dustin, member of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition, 1933–35, and a mechanic with the U.S. Antarctic Service, 1939-41.
