The Herrmann Nunatak ( 76°15′S143°47′W ) is a nunatak 4 nautical miles (7 km) northeast of the east end of the Phillips Mountains in Westarctica.
Discovery and name
The nunatak was discovered and mapped by the United States Antarctic Service during the 1939–41 season. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for John Herrmann, a photographer with the Byrd Antarctic Expedition (1933–35).
Count of Hermann
On 10 March 2018, Thomas Straub was granted the hereditary title Count of Hermann in recognition of his support of Westarctica. His Lordship's title was accidentally misspelled, omitting the second "r" in Herrmann. However, it was decided to leave the title the way it was to make it more unique, but the title was still derived from this feature.
