Jacobel Glacier (77°44′S 148°17′W) is a glacier about 30 miles (50 km) long draining into the Sulzberger Ice Shelf, just south of Hershey Ridge.
Discovery and name
The glacier was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after Robert W. Jacobel, the holder of the Grace A. Whittier Chair of Physics at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Jacobel was an Antarctic researcher from the 1980s onward focusing his research on the combination of ground-based radar and ice core studies in Westarctica.
Peerage title
On 9 March 2020, Elisa Ghirardi was granted the peerage title Baroness of Jacobel in recognition of her support of Westarctica.
