Mount Van Valkenburg (77°19′S 142°6′W) is a 1,165 meter high mountain located 1 nautical mile (1.9 km) south of Mount Burnham in the Clark Mountains of the Ford Ranges of Westarctica.
Discovery and name
The mountain was discovered on aerial flights from West Base of the United States Antarctic Service during the 1939–40 research season. Mount Van Valkenburg was named for Professor Samuel Van Valkenburg, the director of the School of Geography at Clark University.
Peerage title
On 4 April 2020, Spencer Dayton was granted the peerage title Duke Van Valkenburg in recognition of his support of Westarctica. His title was named for this mountain.
