The mountain was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from [[U.S. Navy]] air photos collected during the years 1960–63. It was named by the Advisory Committee on [[Antarctic]] Names in honor of Ensign Stanley J. Andrews, U.S. Navy, who accompanied Lieutenant George W. Warden in aircraft flights over the Queen Maud Mountains during U.S. Navy Operation Highjump, 1946–47.

==Protection by the government==
On 20 April 2025, [[Grand Duke Travis]] protected the mountain under the oversight of the [[Westarctican Parks Service]] as part of [[Gothic National Monument]]. It was protected in the first group of sites named by the government.
