Map of the Gierloff Nunataks

The Gierloff Nunataks (85°31′S 129°0′W) are a group of nunataks lying 8 nautical miles (15 kilometers) northwest of Lentz Buttress, at the northern side of the Wisconsin Range in Westarctica.

Discovery and name

The nunataks were mapped by USGS from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos collected from 1960–64. Gierloff Nunataks were named by US-ACAN in honor of George B. Gierloff, who worked as a builder with the Byrd Station winter party in 1961.
