Acarospora Peak is a mountain peak located 1 mile (2 km) northeast of, and only slightly below the elevation of Mount Czegka, at the southwest end of Watson Escarpment.
Discovery and name
The peak was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos collected between 1960–64. Acarospora Peak was named by the New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee on suggestion of New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition - Scott Glacier Party (1969–70) because the lichen Acarospora emergens was found on the peak.
Peerage title
On 19 February 2020, Joshua Lauterbach was granted the peerage title Count of Acarospora in recognition of his support of Westarctica.
