On 9 March 2025, Paolo Scappaticcio was granted the [[Peerage of Westarctica|peerage title]] Count of Palmer in recognition of his support of [[Westarctica]]. His Lordship's title is named for this feature.

Mount Palmer is an ice-covered mountain, visible from the seaward side of Thurston Island. It surmounts the north end of Noville Peninsula.

Discovery and name

The mountain was delineated from aerial photographs taken by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump in December 1946. In 1968, Mount Palmer was named in honor of James Troxall Palmer, acting surgeon on the ship Relief and later on the sloop of war Peacock under Charles Wilkes from 1838-42. After his Antarctic service, Palmer later became Surgeon-General of the Navy.

Peerage title

On 9 March 2025, Paolo Scappaticcio was granted the peerage title Count of Palmer in recognition of his support of Westarctica. His Lordship's title is named for this feature.
