Siple was involved with the United States Antarctic Service Expedition of 1939–1941, which would have been the third Byrd expedition. He served during Operation Highjump, (also known as the [[United States Navy]] Antarctic Developments Program 1946–1947), developed cold weather gear for the Korean War, and Operation Deep Freeze I in 1955–1956. He was the inaugural scientific leader at the U.S. Amundsen–Scott [[South Pole]] Station 1956–1957, during the International Geophysical Year. This activity is covered in his fourth book, ''90 Degrees South''.

His Grace, the Duke of Fox Grove, August Grappin, is a member of Westarctica's nobility. He currently serves as the Minister of Culture of Westarctica's Royal Council. His title is not derived from any current geographic feature of Westarctica.

Since September 2021, His Grace has served as Editor-in-Chief of Westarctica Quarterly. The duke was present at the signing of the Marana Accords and reported on the event for the national press. In 2021, His Grace authored the definitive chronicle of Westarctica's history, a book titled Westarctica: 20 Years on Ice.
