Discovery and name

The peak was mapped by the United States Geological Service using surveys and U.S. Navy trimetrogon photography collected during the years 1958-60. Tusing Peak was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Allen D. Tusing, a meteorologist who served at Byrd Station during the 1959 research season.

Peerage title

On 13 April 2026, Grand Duke Travis bestowed the peerage title "Baron of Tusing" upon James J. Riff, the husband of the Baronetess of Rosmore. His Lordship's title is so-named in connection with this peak.
