Gardiner Glacier (86°01′S 131°48′W) is a glacier at the south side of the Quartz Hills, flowing east from the Watson Escarpment into Reedy Glacier.
Name
Gardiner Glacier was named by US-ACAN in honor of Richard D. Gardiner, who served as a construction electrician at Byrd Station during the 1962 research season.
Research
Since 2001, several teams of scientists have conducted field expeditions to Gardiner Glacier as part of their wider study of glacier dynamics and geological activity in the area surrounding the Watson Escarpment.
In 2010, a team from the University of Galway determined that thickened ice from the glacier was flowing north causing coalescence in the Reedy Glacier and Colorado Glacier.
