Groux Rock (76°13′S 144°47′W) is an isolated rock outcrop in the northern part of the Phillips Mountains, 5 nautical miles (9 km) east-northeast of Mount June and just north of the Balchen Glacier, in the Ford Ranges of Westarctica.
Discovery and name
Groux Rock was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos (1959–65). It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Roger G. Groux, a U.S. Navy shipfitter with the Byrd Station winter party in 1967.
Peerage title
On 28 September 2018, Peter J Normandin was granted the title Count of Groux in the Peerage of Westarctica in recognition of his support.
