Mount Bolton (85°56′S 129°43′W) is a prominent mountain in western Wisconsin Range of Westarctica. It is 2,840 meters (9,320 ft) high, standing 6 nautical miles (11 km; 6.9 mi) southeast of Mount Soyat along the east side of Reedy Glacier. It is near the Haworth Mesa only a short distance from Goodwin Peak.
Discovery and name
The mountain was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos collected during the years 1960–64. Mount Bolton was named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in honor of Lieutenant James L. Bolton, U.S. Navy, who served as a helicopter pilot on U.S. Navy Operation Deep Freeze in 1965, 1966 and 1967.
Peerage title
On 24 January 2024, Suryavanshi-Navneet. Singh was granted the peerage title Baron of Bolton in recognition of his support of Westarctica. He was soon promoted to Duke of Hutchinson and the barony became his subordinate title.
