Nunn Island

Nunn Island is an ice-covered island, 17 kilometers (9 nmi) long, lying within Getz Ice Shelf just south of Wright Island, along the coast of Westarctica.

Discovery and name

Mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1959-66, it was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for R. Admiral Ira Nunn, U.S. Navy, responsible for legal elements of the Navy's Antarctic support during the International Geophysical Year of 1957-58.
