The bluff is 7 nautical miles (13 km) northeast of the summit of the mountain.
Discovery and name
It was mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy aerial photography from 1959–65. It was named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Frank J. Recely, Jr., an American ionospheric physicist at Byrd Station in 1965.
Peerage title
On 10 January 2025, Thomas Williams was granted the peerage title Count of Recely in recognition of his support of Westarctica. After he was elevated to the rank of Duke, it became one of His Grace's subordinate titles. His Grace subsequently requested that the title be transferred to his wife, Delilah Williams, who subsequently became the Countess of Recely.
