Regalia for the four grades of knighthoods in the Order of the Snowflake

The Order of the Snowflake is the second highest Order of Westarctica. The intention of the order is to honor those who have provided a service to Westarctica. It was created in January 2015.

There are four classes of the order:

  • Knight/Dame Grand Cross
  • Knight/Dame Grand Commander
  • Knight/Dame Commander
  • Knight/Dame

Only the Grand Duke himself has the power to bestow new knighthoods and thus far, he has awarded the medal to foreign dignitaries, artists, prominent nobles, and other supporters of Westarctica. All knights and dames receive the regalia of the class being bestowed; the Order of the Snowflake is always awarded for life. Membership entitles the bearer to attach the post-nomial "KtS" ("Knight of the Snowflake") or "DtS" ("Dame of the Snowflake") following their name in correspondence and other forms of written address (business cards, place settings, calling cards, etc.).

Knight Grand Cross

The highest grade, that of Knight Grand Cross, is reserved for Heads of State and members of the Royal Family. It remains the most rarely awarded class. The regalia for this class consists of a silver breast star with over 100 Austrian rhinestone crystals. In the center of the star is a snowflake symbol encased in glass.

Knight Grand Commander

On 12 August 2020, Grand Duke Travis created the class of Knight Grand Commander as a way to further recognize distinguished service from existing knights and dames. This grade is only open to existing Knight or Dame Commanders who have held the honor for at least two years. The regalia is a silver breast star modeled after the star of the Order of the British Empire. In the center of the star is a blue enamel badge with the words "ORDER OF THE SNOWFLAKE" in white lettering surrounding a white enamel snowflake design.

Knight Commander

The grade of Knight Commander is the most commonly awarded class and has been given to many allies of Westarctica as well as many citizens and nobles in recognition of their significant contributions to the nation. The regalia for this class is a blue and white striped ribbon drape with a snowflake pendant. The pendant is silver with white enamel and a single rhinestone crystal in the center. Originally, these pendants were sourced from a retail supplier; however, in starting in 2020, Grand Duke Travis arranged to have custom pendants manufactured after the original pieces were discontinued.

Knight

Although it was initially the most commonly-bestowed class of knighthood, in 2016, it was surpassed by the grade of Knight Commander. The class of Knight continued to be bestowed on certain occasions, often to foreign diplomats where the class of Knight Commander might not be appropriate when that same grade was already held by the recipient's Head of State or Head of Government. The original regalia for this class was a small pewter snowflake, which was updated in October 2020 along with the regalia for the other classes. The current regalia consists of a blue drape ribbon with a solid white stripe and a brushed silver snowflake pendant with a single crystal in the center. The pendant is identical to the pendant used for for the grade of Knight Commander, but without the white enamel.
